PLAYHOUSE CREATURES Website.jpeg
Directed by Jacqs Graham
St. Albans Hall,  23-25 April 2026

The play is a jolly romp, set backstage at a London theatre in the 1660s. After their closure by the Puritans, theatres re-opened under the reign of Charles II; one of the innovations was the appearance of women on stage for the first time.

Using excerpts from the popular plays of the time, we follow the lives of six of the early Restoration actresses and their onstage and backstage dramas.

The women share their strengths, frailties and the extremes some of them chose to go to for the sake of their art.

Please note that the play contains very strong language and some scenes of an adult nature. It is not suitable for under–16s.
